Welcome to my webpage!
I'm Zhiren Hu, a fourth-year Ph.D. student in Applied Economics at Cornell University, and I'm visiting Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability in 2026-2028 academic years. I'm affiliated to Cornell Institute for China Economic Research (CICER), Stanford Economics for Sustainability and Energy Transition Lab (eSET), and Stanford Center on China's Economy and Institutions (SCCEI).
My research agenda aims to identify political and behavioral frictions in environmental governance and design politically feasible environmental policies. My previous studies focus on three topics: (1) pollution regulation; (2) natural capital; and (3) energy transition.
